Purchasing Category Manager

Consolis, a leading manufacturer of precast concrete products, is looking for several experienced and successful Category Buyers for its largest division Building Solutions. Consolis Building Solutions sells, designs, manufactures and installs precast concrete structures for non-residential and residential construction projects. The division operates in 10 countries in the Nordics, Baltics and Eastern Europe and employs app. 5,000 people.

The Consolis Group was acquired by Bain Capital in 2017 and is undergoing a transformation journey to accelerate its growth and operations. Purchasing in Consolis is organized as a strategic support function that aims to contribute to increased competitiveness through supplier development and sub-contracting networks, cost reduction through Total Cost of Ownership principle. Purchasing is responsible for all suppliers and has an annual supply spend of approximately 575 MEUR.

Spenncon AS is a Norwegian subsidiary of Consolis. It consists of four factories and two sales offices. We are located in Bergen and Trondheim (Sales Offices), Hønefoss, Hjørungavåg, Verdal and Sandnes/Skurve(factories). Established in 1961, the company has 470 dedicated employees in Norway.

Job summary
In Purchasing we are now developing and implementing a Category Purchasing function to deliver efficient, stable and value-adding purchasing activities in line with our business needs. We are now looking for Category Buyers within the following areas: Steel, Cement, Transport, CapEx, MRO, Indirect (IT, consultants, temp workers, energy etc.), who will report to the Head of Purchasing and join the Purchasing team in our development journey.

The role of a Category Buyer is to manage and develop an assigned category within a defined scope (regional/global), by defining category strategies and align the strategies cross-functionally in Consolis. We expect the Category Buyer to ensure long term development of the supply base through supplier relationship management (SRM), as well as implement and follow up on the category actions and results. You will be governing decisions and the saving plan within the area of the assigned category.

We are looking for Category buyers experienced in international purchasing and with a successful track record in relevant category and industry. Work location will be in any of our local Consolis sites. Frequent travelling both domestically and internationally in the EU should be expected in order to meet goals in this position.

Key activities

  • Develop Category strategies for the assigned category and scope, align with cross-functional stakeholders, and execute the strategy
  • Manage commercial relationships with Strategic Suppliers
  • Introduce new suppliers to support innovations and localization requirements
  • Investigate and execute cost saving initiatives with strategic suppliers
  • Maintain knowledge about market outlook relevant for the category business.
